Uh-oh. It’s Monday morning and you woke up with a huge zit on your face. You immediately scrub your face to death, and apply a bunch of different products you think will help all at once. Though it feels like you’re solving your pimple problem, you might be doing your face more harm than good.

1. Not Washing Your Face Before Bed
Awesomeness continues after advertisement>
We get it. You’re super tired and you. just. don’t. wanna. But refusing to wash your face before bed is a major no no. Going to sleep with dirt, oil, and makeup on can cause acne and enlarged pores. So take the five minutes and wash your face before bed so you’ll have #NoRegrets in the morning.
2. Excessive Exfoliating
Scrubbing your face with an exfoliant is an important part of your skin care routine, but overusing your scrub can actually make your underlying acne worse. We know — it doesn’t sound like it makes sense because when you’re suffering from a breakout, all you want to do is scrub it out. However, extra scrubbing can actually lead to skin cells accumulating within pores, leading to blackheads and creating even more pimples. Instead, stick to exfoliating your face two to three times a week.
3. Using Too Many Anti-Acne Products
When it comes to combatting acne, less is actually more. If you have more than two acne-fighting products, then you’ll want to lessen your load. That’s because anti-acne cleansers use ingredients, like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, that dry out your skin big time. The more you dry out your skin, the more prone you’ll be to breakouts. Stick with just two anti-acne treatments, and you’re good to go.
4. Skipping Out on Moisturizer
Your skin is oily, and so you think that skipping out on using your daily moisturizer will help solve your skin issues, right? WRONG! Your skin needs moisture like we need water in order to live. In addition to drying out your pimples, your acne products are drying out your skin and your face needs its hydration, babe. For a clear complexion, alwayssss use your moisturizer.
5. Picking Your Pimples
It’s totally addictive, we know, but picking your pimples and squeezing your blackheads are actually harming your skin — and making your acne worse. Picking at your skin can lead to bacterial infection, which leads to more blemishes, and also can cause scarring. If you seriously need to pick, only do so with a clean extraction tool. But deep acne should ONLY be handled by a pro.
6. Using Only Warm Water
Warm water feels sooooo good, but it’s not so good for your face. When your water is too hot, it dries out your skin, making it more prone to irritation, which will only make your acne worse. Use lukewarm or cool water instead, which will help tighten your pores and help you feel more refreshed and squeaky clean.
