For all the curly-haired girls out there

But thankfully there is hope for our curly-haired friends! And that hope is called plopping. Plopping is a fairly recent trend that is taking the curling community by storm. Though its name might be kinda strange sounding, the technique has really awesome benefits, including being totally heat-free and curl defining.

So what exactly is plopping?

Essentially, it’s a no-heat drying method that involves “plopping” your head of curls onto a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt and then wrapping it around your head to dry. The result? Beautifully defined, frizz-free and voluminous curls that are simply GORGE.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to plop your hair for your best curls everrrrr.

Step #1

Start with freshly washed, damp (not super wet) hair. Then add your fave styling product, like Living Proof’s Curl Defining Cream ($30).

Step #2

Then grab a cotton tee or microfibre towel. Spread your tee/towel on a flat surface — like a chair or counter. If you’re using a t-shirt, make sure the sleeves end are closest to you. Then lean over the center of your chosen material and place your head over the surface, so all your curls are falling over the top of your head.

Step #3

Then place the bottom of the shirt or towel at the nape of your neck. Grab the side of your towel/tee and twist it up away from your face. Tie the sleeves of the t-shirt into a giant knot and tuck any loose ends until the knot feels secure.

If you’re using a t-shirt, you want to make two knots on either side of your head like Princess Leia’s epic look.

Step #4

Continue plopping your hair for about 15-20 minutes, or until your hair has had enough time to set and dry.

Step #5

Now is the time to unravel your plop. In order for your curls to keep their awesome definition — and to prevent frizz — be careful not to touch your curls while they’re still wet. You can choose to diffuse or air dry your curls, or even leave them overnight. And you’re done! Now you can show off your cool curls!
