“He prepped the eyes with Jouer Buttercream Shadow, lined her upper lash line with Laura Mercier Inner Eye Definer in Stormy Grey and blended that line with the Metallic Pewter shadow from the Laura Mercier Editorial Eye Palette Intense Clays. He went over the outer corners of the lash line with Blackened Black Clay shadow from the same palette and used Urban Decay Naked in the crease.

After smoking out the pewter shadow, the makeup artist finished the look with Benefit They’re Real! Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara and applied Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Sugar Frost on the inner corners of the eyes.”

If that to-do list has your mind spinning, don’t worry. Sollitto also shared some basic tips that we can all apply to our smoky eye attempts.

“Don’t pile on makeup,” he explained. “Start with mascara first, and your eyes will already darken up.”

When it comes to picking a shadow color, Sollitto says that you should actually go against your instincts and pick a lighter shade than you think you need. Then, he suggests, “Ring the eye. Line the inner rim and top lash line with black.”

And voila, celeb-quality smoky eyes are within your reach.
