Regardless of where you live, chances are scarves become a wardrobe staple once fall and winter roll around (okay, maybe not applicable if you live in Hawaii or something, but still). You’ve already got your boots, so it’s time to level up your seasonal outfit with the addition of a scarf. Whether it’s a light silky scarf or a heavy woolen one, you can really change up the effect by trying out these different ways to tie them.

Yes, not tying your scarf is a way to tie your scarf. Sort of.

2. French knot
Take both ends of the scarf together and loop them into a knot at the collar bones.
3. The Necklace
Tie the loose ends of your scarf together to create an infinity-type scarf, and then loop it twice over your head.
4. Double-sided twist
Probably the most classic way to wear a scarf; just put the center of your scarf at the front of your neck, cross the ends over at the back of your neck, and bring them forward over your shoulders.
5. The Loop
Wrap the scarf once or twice around the back of your neck and tie it in a knot at your collar bones.
6. The Pull-Through
Fold your scarf in half, wrap it around the back of your neck, and then feed the loose ends through the loop where you folded it.
7. Over the Shoulder
Cross the loose ends of your scarf over one shoulder.
Secure a belt over the loose ends of a long scarf.
Who says your scarf has to stay folded up? Unfold it and use it like a cozy (but stylish) blanket over your shoulders.
