Sunglasses are not only essential for protecting our peepers from UV rays, but they also make ANY outfit instantly cooler. And your shades look even radder when they perfectly suit your unique face shape. If you thought any pair of sunnies would do, only to try on a pair and think, “Ugh!” then you know what we’re talking about.
Unfortunately there isn’t a pair of sunglasses that flatters all, but there IS a pair that will suit your face. Below, our tips to finding your best pair of shades to show off this summer.

1. Oval-Shaped Face
If you have an oval face, then your face is long and thin, with a chin slightly narrower than your forehead but is overall balanced. Think Emma Watson, Taylor Swift and Beyonce. Basically, your face is perf for most frames and sizes (lucky!). But a rectangular frame will add the most contrast, making your look really pop. Le Specs Minimal Magic Shield Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters ($79).
2. Round Face
If you have a round face, then the width and length is pretty much even all around. Think Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence and Adele. You’ll want to go for squares or wayfarers to add more definition to your cheekbones, and avoid rounded shapes. Black Surf Sunglasses, Target ($13).
3. Square Face
If you have a strong jawline and a broad forehead, then you have a square face. Think Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Olivia Wilde. To soften your features, you’ll want to try a rounded shape that’s not overly huge because it’s all about balancing out your best features and not exaggerating them. Another tip? Remember proportion. The smaller your face, the smaller the frame and vice versa. Round Rose-gold colored Sunglasses, H&M ($6).
4. Heart-Shaped Face
If your face is wider at the forehead but significantly narrower at the chin, then you have a heart-shaped face. Think Sarah Hyland, Selena Gomez, and Kourtney Kardashian. Unlike the other face shapes, you actually want to mimic your features, which is why a slightly rounded pair that is slightly wider than your forehead, like aviators, is perf. Jeepers Peepers Aviator Gold Sunglasses with Yellow Tinted Lens, ASOS ($29).
5. Rectangle Face
If you have a rectangle face, then your face is about one and a half times longer than it is wide with defined cheekbones and a defined jawline. Think Angelina Jolie, Gisele Bundchen and Cara Delevingne. Your shape is similar to a square face but longer, which means your frames should be round but taller. Mirrored Round Sunglasses, Forever 21 ($9).
