What To Wear on a First Date

You feel good when you look good

Other than exams and your driver’s test, few things are as stressful as a first date. You know the drill: you’re wondering whether you’ll get spinach in your teeth or whether he’ll kiss you or whether you even really like him. You might not be able to control those things, but you can control what you wear. There are a number of “first date” rules out there, but it’s important to keep in mind you look your best when you’re being true yourself.

Keeping that in mind, here are some simple tips on what to wear on first date so you can dress to impress.

1. Stick to Your Own Cool Style

A first date isn’t the time to try that new trend you peeped Kendall Jenner wearing on Snapchat. Your date wants to see YOU, which means seeing you in your own unique style. Wear what you would usually wear — just with a bit more polish. So if you’re a jeans and a t-shirt gal, then maybe add a cool belt and a pair of ankle boots.

2. Comfort is Super Important

If you’re not comfortable in your clothes then that discomfort will definitely show on your date. You don’t want to pull on a too-tight shirt or suffer through painful blisters because you finally wore those stilettos that have been stuck in your closet forever. When it doubt: wear something a little loose and a pair of flats.

3. Be Comfortable in Your Skin

Dressing to impress doesn’t mean wearing something super sexy on the first date. Remember: it all comes down to how comfortable you are with yourself and your body. Instead of baring it all, show off your fave asset. Have yoga toned legs? Then wear a fitted skirt or dress. Sophisticated and demure is sooooo underrated.

4. Simplify Your Accessories

We get it: accessories totally make an outfit, but they can also break one. You don’t want to overdo it with all the baubles. They can be distracting for both you and your date, and, again, they might end up making you feel uncomfortable. Comfort is key because without it, you might appear unapproachable.

5. Let the Location Be Your Guide

Make sure you know where you’re headed on your big date. You don’t want to wear your LBD at a basketball game or wear your fave ripped jeans at a fancy restaurant. Though we know you’ll rock your outfit no matter what, but you might feel out of place, which could affect the good vibes of your date. When in doubt? Wear your favorite outfit, or the color that you receive the most compliments on.

Bottom line: When you FEEL good, you instantly LOOK good. So when you stick to what works for you, then you really can’t wear the wrong outfit. Good luck!
