You sent the resume. You did the interview. You played the waiting game. And now you got it. Your new (hopefully dream job). Now the first day has come, and as excited as you are, you have no idea how things will turn out. Here are 10 thoughts you will inevitably have:

1. “Should I go business casual? Or everyday formal? What does office attire even mean?!”

Your outfit will make a big impression. It really depends on what kind of environment you’ll be working at, but you will most likely freak out about your clothes.
2. “I’m definitely going to be late”
Set your alarm clock a half hour before. Take an Uber instead of the train. Be there on time.
3. “Oh, hi….um…what was your name again?”
During the first day you will meet a LOT of new people, and get a bunch of new names. Try to memorize them, or not be afraid to ask if you forget.
4. “I get a whole desk for myself?!”
That one is pretty cool. Bring on the cat posters and thousands of Post-It notes!
5. “So…what should I do now?”
Don’t worry. Your boss will inevitably come find you to get you started.
6. “How does the printer work?”
There will be a lot of things that will be hard to understand or completely grasp on your first day. Again, don’t be afraid to ask.
7. “When is lunch time?”
Probably the most important question you will ask all day, to be honest.
8. “My co-workers seem like really nice people”
Get to know those around you. You will spend a lot of time with them. Befriend them. Make your space as fun and comfortable as possible.
9. “Can I go now?”
A good question to ask. Don’t just leave. When you feel your hours are up for the day, just ask if this is an appropriate time and head on out.
10. “I can’t wait to come back tomorrow”
Welcome to adulthood.
