Awesomeness continues after advertisement
June is the month we use to celebrate Queer Pride. You probably will see the rainbow flags going up and will get invited to many celebratory events. However, it is not the only time we should be proud of our LGBT identity! Here are a few ways to stay proud every single day:
1. Follow the Conversation

You’ve probably noticed but there’s a LOT going on in the world today. And much of it may concern LGBT people, so make sure to always stay informed.
2. Engage in Other’s Perspectives
One of the greatest things about the LGBT community is how diverse it is. So chances are there are people completely different from you very near you. Try to engage in what they think, feel, or like. Talk to them and get to know them. Remember, they’re your family.
3. Teach Someone Else
There’s some people out there who struggle with the concepts of gender identity, sexual orientation, and LGBT-centric slang. And sometimes all they need is someone to explain it to them to be on board. So sit down and talk with them. And yes, a Drag Race viewing party totally counts.
4. Showcase It in Little Ways
You don’t have to wear a rainbow jumpsuit (although if you are, that totally rocks). But there’s little ways to keep your pride and identity close to your heart: a song, a favorite shirt, a bracelet, a pendant, some earrings, maybe even a tattoo. Make sure it’s something meaningful.
5. Try to Make a Difference
Remember not everyone is as fortunate as you are. If you look around your community, there’s bound to be a hot line, youth center, or shelter that focuses on LGBT people that can certainly use your help.
6. Support Queer Art and Businesses
Take a look at the LGBT section of Netflix. Buy music made by queer artists. Attend a drag show! Queer people need our support, and there are many ways you can show it.
7. Learn Your History
Not everyone knows the story behind the path to marriage equality, or the groundbreaking coming out of Ellen. We’re here because of our history, so take a moment to learn about your past, present, and future.
8. Be Yourself
The most important thing you can do to make sure you are proud every day is to be shamelessly yourself. Act how you want, dress how you like, do what you love. That’s what Pride is ultimately about.
