It’s our last month of freedom before we return to school refreshed and ready to tackle a new year like Rory Gilmore at her finest. But before we start stress eating about SAT prep, new teachers, and AP classes, let’s live in the moment and enjoy all that these last few weeks of Summer have to offer. Here’s your go-to guide to music, movies, and must-haves for the month of August. Oh! And don’t worry, we totally threw in some TV too because Summer just wouldn’t be Summer without some binge watching, right?

Kesha, Rainbow

Awesomeness continues after advertisement

Kesha is back re-branded with her new album Rainbow which is set to be released on August 11th.  With her new album, she’s taking her last years of voicelessness and defeat and turning them into the powerful music we all need in our lives right now. “The reason I wanted to name this record Rainbow is because I kind of associate healing with kind of going back to my childlike mind, before I got all twisted and turned and beaten and heartbroken and all those things,” she explained to NME, clearly referencing her battle with former producer Dr. Luke. If Kesha’s single “Praying” is any indication of what the entire album will be like, well, get your tissues and power posses ready. It’s sure to blow us away.

PS: We’re still trying to emotionally recover from that high note. Dying.

The Glass Castle

The renowned best-selling memoir by Jeannette Walls, The Glass Castle, has finally been adapted for the big screen, and our favorite Brie Larson will be starring in it along side Woody Harelson and Naomi Watts. The story follows four siblings brought up by their free-spirited but responsibility eschewing parents. We see the fallout of their upbringing as we follow a now adult Jeannette. The Glass Castel hits theaters August 11.

Dance Moms (Lifetime)

The hit dance reality TV show is back with an almost brand new start with its midseason premiere. Abbey Lee will be wrapping up her storyline as the second half of Season 7 finishes. Dancing With The Stars veteran Cheryl Burke will then take over for Season 8. We’re also super excited because Chloe Lukasiak will be returning! The mid-season premiere of Dance Moms airs August 1st.

Teen Choice Awards (Fox)

Start casting your votes! The Teen Choice Awards will be live August 13th on Fox. You can scroll through the nominees and start voting here. Who else is having a really hard time choosing between PLL and Riverdale?!

MTV Video Music Awards (MTV)

While we’re not sure who’s performing just yet, we do know MTV will be making a huge change to the awards show this year. They officially announced that all the awards would be gender-neutral. Check out all the nominees here (Katy Perry, The Weeknd, and Kendrick Lamar seem to be the frontrunners). You can catch the VMAs live on August 27th.
