GALentine’s Day: How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day With Your Squad

#NoBoysAllowed

“Galentine’s Day” was originally coined by the awesome Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) from Parks and Recreation a few years ago, and has since gained in popularity for its all-around awesomeness and for being an alternative celebration for those who are single on Valentine’s Day. Basically, it’s the perfect reason to get together with your amazing single girlfriends and make some fun memories (including eating TONS of chocolate).

Galentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, but, honestly, you and your squad can celebrate this super rad day on V-Day too — whatever suits your fancy. Here are some ways you can celebrate.

1. Host a Potluck Dinner — With Breakfast Foods

Have your besties bring over their fave breakfast dish for dinner, or you can all cook together in one kitchen. It’s a cool way to show off your culinary skills, plus who can say no to waffles?

2.  Play Dress Up

You know that stylin’ LBD you’ve been dying to wear, but haven’t had the opportunity — or invitation — to wear it? Well, here’s your chance to show it off. Have your friends bring over their fanciest frocks, and you can hold your own Project Runway. The best part? You can do each other’s make-up, and have your BFF show you how she nails that killer smoky eye.

3. Have a Dance Off

Create your fave playlist of the most fun single gal tunes ever (“Single Ladies,” “Shake It Off” and “Girls Just Wanna Have” are good places to start) and have yourself a slammin’ dance off in the kitchen.

4. Hand out Valograms

A fun activity to do with your besties is to give each other valograms! Let them know how much you appreciate them being your friend, or keep it silly and jot down an inside joke. Either way, have fun with it!

(p.s. You won’t want to miss swoon-worthy Kian Lawley in “Before I Fall” passing out valograms!)

5. Watch ALLLLL the Rom-Coms About Being Single

Okay, maybe it’s impossible to watch EVERY rom-com about being single, but you should definitely watch as many as you can. Frozen, Whip It, He’s Just Not Into You, and How to Be Single are all pretty good bets. And don’t forget to pop some popcorn.

6. Have a Spa Night

Pamper yourself by giving each other relaxing at-home mani and pedis. You can also concoct your fave homemade facial masks and take turns giving each other scalp massages.

7. Go on a Mini Shopping Spree

Treat yo self by going to your fave stores or shopping online. Nothing says “I love you” more than a beautiful pair of shoes. Later, show off your new purchases at your go-to coffee shop.

8. Make Some Crafts Together

Create some fun friendship bracelets together, or you can all take turns knitting a colorful scarf that you’ll all own, like the Sisterhood of Traveling Pants. Except it’s a scarf, and therefore way more easier to share.

9. Do A Gift Exchange

Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be giving or receiving gifts on Valentine’s Day! Gift exchanges are perfect for a Galentine’s Day. The gifts don’t need to be particularly expensive. Recycle an old gift bag and fill it with goodies like popcorn, candy, a copy of “Before I Fall”, and some fuzzy socks!

10. Eat Chocolate

Valentine’s Day is basically all-you-can-eat chocolate day. YASSS! Buy up some fancy heart-shaped candies for your BFFs, exchange sweet Valentines with each other, and enjoy being single — with some sugar!

Now go have the best Galentine’s Day ever with your besties!!
