Host a Movie Night with Your Squad
Watch a girl power movie to remind yourself that all you need in life are your girls surrounding you, having a good time.
Hanging with friends is the best remedy for any single Valentine’s Day blues that try to drag you down. The best part: You can spend Valentine’s Day with people you know will actually always love you. Check out this list of movies featuring kickass girl squads, in case you need some movie inspo.
When In Doubt, Food is the Answer
As one of my best friends said, “there are few things leggings, a comfy sweater, and a huge cheeseburger can’t solve.” Or if being cooped up in the house isn’t for you, grab a couple close chicas and scope out food chains with bomb Valentine’s Day deals (you guys might as well be dating each other anyway). Last year, my friends and I hit up Chick-fil-A for a platter of heart-shaped nuggets.
Bake all the Treats
At my all-girls high school, we held “eat your feelings Wednesday” every single Wednesday. And we grew to love it — because who wouldn’t love sharing baked goods with their 60 closest girlfriends?! Try it out! Enjoy some sweets tonight, you can work out tomorrow.
Wine Wine and More Wine (if you’re over 21, of course)
Nothing cures a broken heart like a wine night done right. Plus, a glass of red wine a day is (supposedly) healthy, so really you’re just being fun, fit, and fabulous all at the same time. As Total Sorority Move says, “There are 3 things in life every girl needs: love to make her weak, wine to make her strong, and sisters when both make her hit the floor.” Ain’t that the truth.
Have a Diva Night for Yourself
Buy yourself that expensive candle just this once, fill the tub with bubble bath, slap on a face mask and some cucumber slices, and throw on some John Mayer, Jack Johnson, or whatever your chill playlist has to offer. No harm in spending a little love on yourself! You deserve it.
Give your friends sappy cards expressing your undying love for them. If the sappy route isn’t for you, find some cheesy pick-up lines like, “I’m not a photographer, but I can picture you and me together,” “I’m lost, can I have directions to your heart?” or “Do you have a pencil? ‘Cause I want to erase your past and write our future.” Find some more funny ideas here.
Give Each Other Typical Valentine’s Day Gifts
Head to your nearest drug store and buy out the cheesiest teddy bears, chocolates, and if you’re feeling bold, maybe even a ring pop! Splurge and show your friends how much you care. Or make a point to show that you can still have all the perks of Valentine’s Day without a partner.
Volunteer and Spend Some Time with Animals
Have a heart and do your part. Go to a nearby rescue shelter and play with adorable puppies! Dogs are always there when no one else is; they deserve the attention on this day and it’ll make you instantly happy, too. Spread the love.
Plan a Romantic Dinner
Make a reservation at your fave restaurant or the nicest place in town, grab your girls, and treat yo’ self. Call it your first friend-versary. Call it a romantic date for six. Call it anything you want, just make it happen.
