Not only will it make your date feel comfortable and help them loosen up a bit, it will make them feel special and listened to, which releases all sorts of happy chemicals that will make them associate you with something they really really like.
If you’ve read my article on How to Make a Great Impression, you’ll know that I went to the Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People mixer and learned SO much about connecting with people. The number one thing I left with, was that you can totally ask the wrong questions, bringing a conversation to a complete halt. So before we jump into some great questions to ask, remember this tip when it comes to the questions you’ll want to avoid. Broad questions like “How was your day?”, “What’s your favorite movie?” or “What do you do?” actually just freeze people’s brains. So get more specific. Isn’t it more fun when someone asks you “What’s the movie you always watched as a child” as opposed to “What’s your favorite movie?” With the latter, your brain kind of freaks out and you end up not remember a single name of a movie you like. So remember: stay specific with your questions.
