Awesomeness continues after advertisement
This is going to be a short intro. Starbucks can get pricey.
Especially when you are physically dependent on Pumpkin Spice lattes or Very Berry Hibiscus Refreshers to signify to your brain what season it is. Fall, winter, spring, summer — Starbucks is there for you.
So we say it’s time we got more stars-for-our-bucks (zing!) and started saving a little more. Here are some tips:

1. Drop everything and make sure you have a Starbucks Rewards card.
You need a Starbucks Rewards card. You can easily enroll online. Not only will this give you so many perks —order ahead by phone, free in-store refills, etc. — but once you’re a gold card member, you can save with free food and drinks every time you reach 125 stars.
2. Celebrate your birthday with a free drink.
It’s the least they can do. Once you’re a Starbucks Rewards member, you get a free drink on your birthday! Any size, any drink, extra caramel drizzle, added whip, you name it! The world is your oyster.
3. Order your drink creatively.
Know the ins and outs of your coffee — or at least the main ingredients. You can easily cut down your latte price by ordering the same drink (but differently!). Talk to your local barista and ask them what they recommend that tastes similar to the latte you love, and experiment with other drinks and syrups. Also, don’t forget about the secret Starbucks menu when experimenting.
4. Light ice everything
Get more coffee for your buck by saying this key phrase: “light ice please.” This doesn’t necessarily bring your Starbucks price down, but at least you get more bang for your ‘Bucks.
5. Refills on refills on refills.
If you have to get more than one coffee a day, save some money by getting a refill for just 50 cents. All you have to do is save your cup! It’s good for the environment too. Yay.
6. Split a venti with the squad.
If you go on coffee runs with your squad, grab a venti and split it. This way you save some money, and get some quality catch up time with your faves.
7. Order a short.
This one’s tough, but if you’re serious about saving, ordering a short will for sure cut the cost down. Just pretend it’s Starbucks’ new tall size but a shorter, cuter version.
8. Keep an eye out for promotions… outside of Starbucks.
By this point, you are up to date with Starbucks promotions on the mobile app — but you should also keep an eye out for Starbucks deals outside of their app (check sites like on Groupon, for example).
10. If all else fails, just let your inner barista come out.
Less wait time, super convenient, and you don’t even have to leave your house (the dream). Let your inner hipster barista go wild and make your coffee at home. There’s Nespresso, Keurig, pour-over, cold brew, and so many more ways to make delicious coffee at home. Believe it: you will save tons of money. Even splurging on an espresso machine will come out to less money over the course of a few months.
