5 Things You Didn't Know About Rebecca Black

If anyone knows how to reinvent herself, it’s Rebecca Black. She’s back with a new sound, and we’re all listening. Believe it or not, even though “Friday” broke the replay button in 2011, Black has never released a full album or EP. Until today.

Just last month, she released the empowering anthem we all need right now — titled “Heart Full of Scars” — and her debut album, “RE/BL,” is out now. While Black has been in the spotlight for years, there’s still so much more to learn about the singer/dancer/actress from Irvine, California. Below, five things you might not know about Rebecca Black.

She’s more nervous than you are when you ask for a photo.

Black was extremely nervous the first time she was recognized in public, at age 13. “I was in a Forever 21,  shopping with my dad for something. My dad comes up to me at one point and was like, ‘those girls are definitely staring at you. They know who you are.’ When we walked out of the store, sure enough, they asked me for a picture. I was so nervous to mess up,” Black explained. And years later, being asked for a photo is still a bizarre experience for the star. “It’s still kind of weird,” she said. “It’s a very weird thing.”

She learned to drive at 14.

She has most of us beat by two years! Because she was homeschooled and usually home alone all day, Black’s mom wanted her to learn how to take care of herself. “For her it was like, ‘if there’s an emergency, you [should] know how to go somewhere,” Black explained.

One of her first crushes was Orlando Bloom.

When she was younger, Black had a poster of Orlando Bloom on her wall. “I was so creepy back then. I would kiss it every night. I [would] put my lipstick on before I went to bed,” she said.

She can’t live without fried plantains.

“I think it’s because I grew up with a Mexican mom,” Black said. “She cooked them all the time. So good.”

She won’t let anyone get in her way.

At just 20-years-old, Rebecca Black has already crafted a great personal motto: “Never let anyone stop you from doing what you dream of.”

She stopped by AwesomenessTV on September 14 to give us a sneak peak of her new music. Check out her acoustic performance below!
