Ed Sheeran Will Guest Star on ‘Game of Thrones’

But will he sing?

Forget winter — Ed Sheeran is coming…to guest on an episode of Game of Thrones.

That is according to the series’ creators, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, who revealed the amazing news at a SXSW panel on Sunday. But the reason behind the megastar’s appearance is even sweeter. Benioff said they had tried for years to land Ed as a surprise guest star for Maisie Williams — a.k.a. Arya Stark on the show — because she, like everyone else, is a Sheeran superfan.

“For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,” Benioff said, per tv-and-radio/2017/mar/13/ed-sheeran-to-guest-star-in-game-of-thrones” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>the Guardian.

Later that day Ed confirmed the news, tweeting, “Guess the cat’s out the bag…,” and linked to a news story about the announcement.

We know if we were Maisie, we’d be totally stoked about the news, too. The actress has never been shy about her love for the ginger-haired singer. It was only two weeks ago when she posted a pic of Ed performing at the Brit Awards on her Instagram, calling it the “highlight” of her night.

Ed isn’t the first musician to appear on the series. Members of Coldplay, Snow Patrol and Sigur Rós, among others, have all popped up throughout its run. Some have appeared as musicians, while others were cast as unrecognizable zombies.

Unfortunately not much else has been revealed about Ed’s role — like whether he will sing or not, or when his episode will air — but we DO know that the seventh and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere July 16.

Here’s hoping Ed not only sings, but survives his episode too.
