Awesomeness continues after advertisement
For the last year, it seems like Taylor Swift has dropped off of the face of the earth – or at least that’s what she wants us to think. The star has noticeably backed away from the spotlight, but even despite her best efforts, she still can’t help making some headlines.
It is no secret that Swift is a control freak when it comes to the press – and while some of her sneaky tactics for avoiding the paparazzi include hiding behind an umbrella and walking backwards to her car – there’s a new rumor that’s impossibly hard to shake off.
Instead of walking out her front door like a typical adult human, some people are saying Swift has been leaving her New York City apartment – wait for it! – via suitcase to avoid being photographed. Yes, you read that correctly.

While this is most likely not true (Splash News, the photo service that started it all, has since retracted the story), many Swifties want to believe it just because of how ridiculous/genius it is.
But Swift isn’t the only one to go to great lengths to avoid the cameras. Many high-profile celebrities have amused us with some of their clever (and not-so-clever) methods:
Just last year, Justin Bieber was seen walking the streets of Amsterdam wearing a wig and a fake mustache. Not the most effective disguise – but a disguise nonetheless. Points for trying.
Bieber upped the ante when he was seen wearing a gas mask in an attempt to conceal his face (which, ironically, only drew more attention to it). But we have to give the Biebs credit for the all black, color coordinated outfit. Only Justin Bieber can make a gas mask look on-trend.
Shia Labeouf might have caused a stir when he wore the infamous “I am not famous anymore” paper bag, but it was actually not the first time the star rocked the inventive look. He has worn paper bags over his head before in order to prevent the paparazzi from getting a pic of his face (we guess stars don’t always live the most glamorous lives, but at least they recycle?).
In the most charitable case of celebs hiding their faces, former-dream-team-couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield found a brilliant way to turn lemons into lemonade. In New York City, the couple shifted the spotlight away from their pearly whites and toward a good cause by holding signs that listed different charitable organizations people could get involved in. The handwritten signs read:
“We just found out that there are paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. So…why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it? www.wwo.org www.gildasclubnyc.org Have a great day!”
As it turns out, you don’t have to be Spiderman and Gwen Stacy to save the day.
But Daniel Radcliffe may take the cake with the most clever strategy of all. While starring in the play Equus, Radcliffe wore the same outfit for six months so that every time he was photographed leaving the theater, the photos looked like they were from the same day (and, therefore, wouldn’t be sellable). If you don’t mind being an outfit repeater, this is actually a pretty genius idea.
Stars. They’re just like us. Except when they’re not.
