While it feels like we have been obsessing over Kylie Jenner’s lip kits forever, it hasn’t even been two years since her wildly successful cosmetics line hit the market. And from the moment that they became available, Jenner’s lip kits became a must-have beauty product and sold out faster than the time it would take you to name all of her family members. But we had no idea just how successful the 20-year-old’s collection really was until now…
In a new interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Kris Jenner revealed that her youngest daughter’s line, Kylie Cosmetics, which now includes products like Kyshadows and Kyliners, is set to be a billion dollar brand by 2022. Yes, a billion dollars! To put this into perspective, it took Lancôme 80 years to do this, and Bobbi Brown 25. Additionally, the company has already done $420 million in retail sales in 18 months, which is truly incredible.
Jenner has always been passionate about makeup and her lips specifically (she knew her fans had been looking for the Kylie Jenner lip color), but she wasn’t always confident that the line would take off like it has. Her initial launch included only 5,000 of each lip kit, whereas today, 300,000 of each color are produced.

Jenner remembers questioning how popular her lip kits could be, and asked herself, “do I want to make this much? No, because nobody is going to buy it. I didn’t want to order that much,” the “Life of Kylie” star recalled. “But then my mom was like, ‘Kylie, people are going to want your lip kit.’ I guess sometimes that’s all I need to not get nervous.”
The momager was once again right on the money and her Snapchat maven daughter’s attention to detail paid off (she goes to the factory and works with the chemists directly).
Laura Nelson, whose company Seed Beauty produces Kylie Cosmetics, encourages people to root for Jenner. “She’s coming from an authentic place of working very hard and truly loving makeup and beauty,” Nelson said. “It’s very hands-on in her company.”
Kylie Jenner isn’t the only celebrity who has pioneered a billion dollar brand — but she might be the youngest.
She joins celebs like George Clooney, who sold his tequila brand Casamigos for that price earlier this year, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, whose fashion empire is said to be worth a billion, and Jessica Alba who has grown The Honest Company into a billion dollar line of nontoxic products.
