Who knew a haircut could cause so much drama? Viner turned YouTuber, Lele Pons, posted this Instagram pic just a few days ago with the caption, “DONATED MY HAIR!!! First time I ever cut my hair. What do you think?” Looking good, Lele. Very blunt, very blonde, very… bleached?
Next to her in the photo is a friend holding what looks like Lele’s chopped off hair. But leave it to Team Internet to do a little thorough investigating. So thorough, that you all noticed the hair in her friend’s hand isn’t Lele’s hair at all. She’s actually holding hair extensions! And yes, Twitter went WILD in response.
One person tweeted, “Care to explain how you chopped off your “hair” and “donated” it @lelepons?? Last time I checked you can’t donate extensions.”

The tweet was retweeted over 75,000 times and definitely caused a bit of ruckus. So much commotion in fact, that Lele decided to delete the pic from the ‘gram and took to Twitter to clear things up.
She said, “To help clear any assumptions, I cut my hair with the intention of donating it. Sadly after trying, I learned charities who donate wigs don’t accept color treated hair. So I’m finding other ways to help those affected by hair loss b/c of cancer. This is still a priority for me.”
That’s great that she’s trying to donate her hair for a good cause, but of course, Team Internet still has questions! Like, why post the photo with the hair extensions?
Well it looks like there’s a pretty good answer! Lele told Allure Magazine, “The locks of hair shown in the Instagram photo was used as reference to show how many inches I cut… At the time of the photo, my real hair was being collected to make a ponytail because I had intended on donating it.” So it turns out she just wanted to use the extensions as a visual for the hair she actually cut off. Ahhhh it’s all making sense now.
Unfortunately, the once deleted photo of Lele and the extensions continues to spread across the Internet – because what happens on the Internet lives on forever. But we want to hear from you guys! What do you think about the donation drama?
