Selena Reveals Why She Will Never Talk Publicly About The Weeknd

Our favorite pop goddess has the perfect reason

The symbolism of Selena Gomez gracing Vogue‘s first 2017 Spring issue donning a floral print top and a new, fresh confidence to match is not lost on us. Spring has sprung, and Selena Gomez is in full bloom.

Selena, after stepping away from the limelight, social media, and music, has returned to us with a new found wisdom, and this new insight doesn’t just cover her new, healthier approach to social media, but her dating life as well.

While we all know Selena and The Weeknd are dating (they’re officially kissing for the camera and taking European vacations together), neither of them have verbally confirmed their relationship. And guess what? Selena has no intention of ever doing so.

The writer of her Vogue cover story, Rob Haskell, wrote,”When I ask Gomez about the romance, she tells me that everything she has said about her relationships in the past has come back to bite her, and that she will never do it again.”

This was clearly a nod to her very public five-year relationship with Justin Bieber which was picked to pieces by their fans. How could we not understand her need for this new relationship to be hers and his alone and not shared with the world? You’ve got our full support, Sel!

Selena added, “Look, I love what I do, and I’m aware of how lucky I am, but — how can I say this without sounding weird? I just really can’t wait for people to forget about me.”

Selena also opened up about another very important relationship–the one she now has with social media. Just as her dynamic with her love interest has matured, so has her relationship with social media.

Selena no longer knows the password to her Instagram and has her team post for her. She explained, ““It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like s–t when I look at Instagram.”

It’s comforting to know even the most followed celebrity on Instagram can fall prey to the slippery slope that is Instagram.

And what does the future hold for Selena? She’s already released a killer tune, which I like to refer to as a self-love anthem, her Netflix show 13 Reasons Why will premiere on March 31st, and she’s just taking each day as they come.

“For a change, it feels like I don’t have to be holding my breath and waiting for somebody to judge a piece of work that I’m doing. I’m not eager to chase a moment. I don’t think there’s a moment for me to chase,” she said.

Head to Vogue to read the piece in its entirety, and to start (or finish) your day we highly recommend checking out our Ultimate Girl Power Playlist. (Of course, Selena’s “It Ain’t Me” is on it. Don’t worry)
