What could possibly be better than watching a live Shawn Mendes performance of “Mercy?” Well, watching a live Shawn Mendes AND Ed Sheeran performance of “Mercy,” of course. And folks, apparently dreams do come true, because our two favorite male superstars shared the stage on Wednesday night for a special duet, and the performance was EVERYTHING.

Shawn Mendes’ “Illuminate” world tour is currently in full swing. Wednesday in Brooklyn, an adorably sweaty Shawn (yes, he’s somehow made sweat adorable) took the stage to play a stripped down version of his fan-favorite song “Mercy.” And then, Ed Sheeran walks out onto the stage, guitar in hand, and joins him. To say the crowd went wild is a gross understatement. The fans were screaming so loudly, that, at first, you can’t hear the two singing, but once the crowd settles down, it’s pure magic.

Shawn Mendes has always cited Ed Sheeran as one of his biggest influences. Before Shawn found fame, he would frequently cover Ed on his Youtube channel, and in 2016, he told Rolling Stone, “Ed Sheeran wrote his songs, so I wanted to write my own songs.” Cue the “awwws.” “He’s just like an average guy and a very approachable person. I’ve actually gotten the chance to meet him, and he’s just like a very sweet guy. He is just so normal, and that’s the best part about him,” Mendes continued.

We haven’t seen Sheeran in the news since his cameo on Game of Thrones. While we found his appearance lovely, hardcore GoT fans went at him pretty hard, forcing Ed to finally step down from Twitter, a topic he’s not been shy about talking about. Ed Sheeran’s last tweet was on July 17, and his bio currently reads, “I don’t use this anymore, please follow me on  on instagram, lots of love x”. We’re glad to see Ed step back into collaborating, because let’s face it, whatever he’s doing, he’s a magical music god.

The two heartthrob pop stars will both continue their respective world tours, with Shawn finishing his stint in the States and Ed heading to the South next. Our big question, however, is who will Shawn invite to his stage next… Taylor Swift? PLEASE, SHAWN. PLEASE. We miss her.
