It is likely that the movie title is referencing the summer of 1967, known as “the Summer of Love,” which is when young people (“hippies” or “flower children”) gathered to San Francisco’s Haight-Asbury neighborhood to demonstrate their opposition to the Vietnam War. A film about the 1967 Summer of Love makes sense, as 2017 serves as it’s 50th anniversary.
This hippie era introduced the world to iconic music from The Who, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin. So, could we be seeing Shawn Mendes portraying a tie dye and flower crown wearing, 60’s rock star? Very possible.

While this will be Shawn’s first live-action role, it’s not his first film role. Back in 2013 he voiced a character in the animated film Underdogs and even had a short stint on The 100.
No word on when production and filming for Summer of Love will start, but we are excited for more info (like who else will be cast and photos from the set) about this exciting movie-musical.
