Shawn Mendes, we’re crowning you King of the Tease. It’s officially been almost a year since Shawn verbally promised us a collaboration with One Direction’s Niall Horan. While on The Late Late Show with James Corden at the end of last September, James mentioned the promised duet and Shawn stated, “[Niall’s] awesome, I’ve been talking to him for a long time. It’s annoying because I’ll be in London; I’ll be like, ‘Niall, I’m here,’ he’ll be like, ‘Just landed in LA,’ and vice versa.” He continued, “When we get a second, I wanna write with him a bunch, for sure.”

Music to our ears. But…but, that was ages ago! Obama was still our president, Taylor Swift and Tom were still dating! Which is why we’re over the moon to report Shawn Mendes hasn’t forgotten about his promise. Just this week, while hosting a fan Q&A at Camp Izze, he confirmed the collab is still very much a go. After a brave fan asked about the promised writing sesh, Shawn explained, “We’ve jammed out, but we will, we will write a song.” Thank you music gods! Still no word on when it will actually happen, however. Let’s just hope their very busy schedules will magically line up on a day very soon.
In the meantime, we can reminisce by listening to this impromptu “Mercy” jam session backstage at the 2016 American Music Awards.
