The video is basically a personified version of that feeling you get when you know a relationship is over, but it’s all dressed up in clothes we could never afford and set in a hotel only A-listers dare step foot in.
We have a feeling the two are playing glamorized versions of themselves. The video starts with Zayn stepping out of car in London, paparazzi lenses flashing everywhere. He walks through a smoky hotel (London’s historic St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel), empty and distressed. We then see Taylor alone in an elevator, brooding…and distressed. For a split second, we think the two enter the same hotel room; however, they are alone in their misery.
Take a look for yourself (yes, you will definitely have to sit through a Fifty Shades Darker ad every time):

Lots of angst, right? And as one fan mentioned, “Why is Zayn ripping the pillows? I thought he liked talking to them.” Ha.
Zayn, Taylor and Fifty Shades all released the video on their respective Vevo accounts last night at midnight. The duo’s teasing leading up to the release clearly paid off. The fans were waiting, and within the first three minutes of the drop, Taylor’s video had surpassed twenty thousand views; while after just thirty minutes, both Zayn and Taylor’s videos were nearing 250,000 views. Half a million views in thirty minutes? Not bad.
At the time this article is being written, the music video is 18th on Trending on YouTube and nearing four million views.
“I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” was written by Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Sam Dew specifically for the film Fifty Shades Darker, which premieres February 10th.
