Awesomeness continues after advertisement
Selena Gomez has been teasing the release of her “Bad Liar” music video on Instagram for the past week, and it’s finally here. The video is set in 1978 in high school, and Selena ingeniously plays all of the lead roles. What’s most compelling about the video, however, is the protagonist’s crush on her female gym teacher. Setting the music video decades in the past makes the stakes for a same-sex crush higher and all the more poignant.
In a recent interview, Selena explained, “‘Bad Liar’ kind of tells a story of that feeling when you’re obsessed with someone, when you are in the ‘honeymoon phase,’ I like to say. I’m a sucker for that feeling,” she added.

Plot twist! The girl’s father is also crushing on her gym teacher!
Who else loved Sel playing a male? That girl’s got comedic timing. While we adored the retro video, we’re just as excited about the tease at the end of it. Looks like “Fetish” will be her new single and music video. Bring it on, Selena. We’ll be waiting patiently re-playing “Bad Liar” endlessly.
