Have you ever dreamed of having Harry Styles write a song about how he can’t get you – a sweet girl from The States – out of his head, but then thought, “Nah, that would never happen!” Well, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. It did happen, it just wasn’t to you. Avid One Direction fans have reportedly tracked down the 20-year-old South Carolina native that Harry’s song “Carolina” is about.

Harry helped his fans out at the beginning of their quest, telling BBC1 in an interview, “It’s about a specific person… It’s potentially about someone from Carolina.” And the fan detectives were off! And it turns out, they didn’t have to look far. Harry revealed in his behind the scenes documentary for Apple Music that the girl’s name is actually in the song. “Her name’s in it so I’m a bit f—ed with that one,” he said.

This is the lyric that revealed her first name: “She never saw herself as a West Coaster / Moved all the way ’cause her grandma told her / Townes, better swim before you drown.” Soon after, fans were tweeting pictures of the lucky gal.

The Daily Mail reported that Townes is a 20-year-old college student who’s majoring in French and Philosophy at UCLA. The two went on a blind date after being set up by a mutual friend, actress Gilland Jones, but their romance did not continue after that. Still, it sounds like it went well: “How would I tell her that she’s all I think about? Well, I guess she just found out,” the lyrics explain.

Daily Mail wasn’t able to reach the private Townes, but a friend of hers commented, “The story is as cute as the song is, she thinks it’s adorable, really sweet, but she was really surprised by the gesture.” She added, “She never imagined he’d do something like this. She loves the song, and thinks it was very lovely of him to do it.”

Harry contacted Townes after the song was released, and the two are reportedly on “friendly terms.”

So there you have it. What a lucky gal. Take a listen now that you have a face to the girl from Carolina.
